8 x SS2019 Fashion Trends That I Am Wearing
1. Utilitarian Pieces
Especially boiler suits, paper bag waists and pocketed styles. These pieces will take you from board room to play park and are extremely low maintenance.
This is dressing for yourself, and for yourself only, at it’s very best. Wear with a classic power pump or a comfy sneaker.
2. Animal Prints
They continue to have a moment. Not just 2018’s wildly popular leopard, but all animals from snake to zebra.
You see them in classic shades of brown, beige, grey, various shades of ochre and mustard yellow and monochrome black and white.
But there is also a rainbow of fantasy animal prints in various colours. Mix and match to your taste with neutrals, denim, metals, florals or bright colours.
3. Deep 80’s
Anything Princess Diana or Alexis Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan would have worn in the deep 80’s.
Think strong shoulders, gold buttons, chain jewelry, belts and bags. Continue with logos all over the place, Chanel bouclé, pearls and all that gaudy fabulousness.
Take inspiration from Fran Drescher in The Nanny or Kim Cattrall in SATC. Adore Karl Lagerfeld’s 90’s Chanel that I will forever be obsessing about.
Channel your inner glamourous woman to the max or tame it down with denim and loafers.
4. Neo-Tailoring
Suits and tailored separates with a fresh, modern and laid-back feel. Gone are the days of stuffy suits.
Even the final frontier of the high-power suit investment bank Goldman Sachs announced in March 2019 that it was going to loosen it’s dress code.
However there will always be a moment for a truly awesome suit that will increase your executive presence. As a bonus it will make you feel like a million bucks. In 2019 a modern take on a power suit looks like great!
5. Neutrals Worn Head-To-Toe
I am really glad to see that good old beige is having a massive moment in fashion right now. I am a self-confessed neutral addict after all. But I am also wondering how much makeup we will have to wear to pull off the lewk.
Take notes from style icon Tamu McPherson’s style book on Instagram. Step into the spring in a tonal outfit that plays with volume and a palette of dusty and earthy shades.
Simply gorgeous, don’t you think? Experiment with different textures, comfortable voluminous pieces and long clean lines.
6. Hair Barrettes
Hair barrettes being back was the best news ever. I never really stopped wearing this incredibly effortless and low-commitment hair accessory trend. But at some point it was getting rather difficult to buy it.
This time around I am stocking up big time so my secret stash will last until the next wave. I got mine at one of my all-time high street favorites Mango. Another fave of mine COS makes great super sleek ones to go with their no-nonsense Scandi-aesthetic style.
See more ideas above. Product codes are in the photos.
7. Romantic Maxi Dresses
Prairie dresses from last summer are still huge news this year. Along them short-sleeved floral button-down tea dresses are hugely popular.
They are feminine and romantic. And they can be just thrown on without having to think about matching items in a morning rush.
There have also been reports of peeps sneakily going out and about with unshaven legs. With these modest and fully covering pieces nobody will ever know what lies beneath.
They also work for the office if you keep the rest of your look sleek and polished. Wear your printed maxi dress with minimal and contemporary shoes, bag and jewelry.
Avoid anything that you would wear to a festival and opt for a more serious look instead.
8. Scarf Prints
Good news for print fans: Hermès and Versace inspired scarf prints are everywhere and there is also a nice dose of 70’s inspired paisley.
I wore my printed body suit blouse several ways on Instagram already and there is more to come as soon as I get a chance to post more. Catch a glimpse to my styling ideas on my Instagram page below.
I like to calm the print galore down with denim (washed black, classic blue and fresh summery white) and flat shoes but your imagination is the limit. I see a lot of all-in styles at the moment and they inspire me to try my own creative mixes.
3 x SS19 Fashion Trends That I Will Avoid
- Neon
- Crochet
- Tie-dye
I think we have already tried those trends and put them in a fashion faux pas box a long time ago. Also I am struggling too see anyone wear these successfully in a professional setting.
These trends are strongly associated with popular culture, summer holidays to exotic locations and a variety of fashion blunders throughout the years, especially the 90’s.
So consider yourself warned and avoid buying in the trends that don’t show your personal brand in the best possible light.
